Will Lithium Batteries Explore UPS History

With the increasing importance of the information industry in the national economy in recent years, China will further increase investment in information technology construction in various industries, especially in the fields of information, communication, electricity, finance, government, manufacturing, transportation, healthcare, public safety, etc. The acceleration of informatization construction in the application field will inevitably drive a greater demand for UPS in the market.

The IDC market is currently one of the areas with the strongest demand for UPS. According to data from relevant institutions, the compound growth rate of the domestic IDC market has reached 42.3% in the past 8 years. Among them, the IDC market was in a period of rapid growth from 2009 to 2011, with an annual growth rate of over 40%; In 2012 and 2013, due to the impact of macroeconomic downturn, the overall market growth rate decreased to below 25%; Afterwards, on the one hand, the government strengthened policy guidance and gradually opened up IDC license applications. On the other hand, industries such as big data and cloud computing emerged, and the market demand for data centers continued to increase. In 2014, the IDC market growth rate once again exceeded 40%. In 2015, the market growth rate was 39.3%, and in 2016, the market growth rate also reached 38.1%. It is predicted that the market growth rate will continue to be around 40% this year and next year, and the IDC market size is expected to approach 140 billion yuan next year, which will significantly drive the demand for UPS.

In addition, UPS has been widely and deeply applied in industries, communication base stations, and other fields, with a large number of high-end and precision equipment increasing. This not only puts forward higher requirements for power supply quality, but also ensures reliable continuity of power supply. With the rapid development of the UPS market, the demand for UPS batteries is also increasing. As an important component of the UPS system, batteries have many specifications and types, and corresponding battery types need to be selected for different application fields. The commonly used battery types for UPS are as follows:

1. Lead acid battery

At present, the most commonly used lead-acid batteries are valve regulated lead-acid maintenance free batteries. The electrolyte is mainly composed of lead and sulfuric acid, characterized by no need to add water or acid during use, good sealing performance, relatively small volume, and high cost-effectiveness when used as UPS batteries.

In addition to maintenance free lead-acid batteries, there are also open liquid lead-acid batteries that require regular measurement of specific gravity, addition of water and acid. If using such batteries, the installation environment needs to be paved with anti-corrosion bricks.

There is also a type of high-temperature lead-acid battery in lead-acid batteries, which is mainly suitable for high-temperature base stations in areas where the ambient temperature is above 35 ℃, frequent power outages, communication base stations in harsh environments, remote base stations, solar/wind energy storage power stations, and many other fields.

2. Colloidal battery

Colloidal batteries, as another commonly used type of UPS batteries, are known as colloidal batteries due to their colloidal electrolyte. The designed service life of colloidal batteries is longer than that of ordinary lead-acid batteries, and their performance is more stable, resulting in relatively high prices.

3. Lithium battery

Lithium batteries are the first choice for green and environmental protection. Lithium batteries do not contain heavy metals such as lead, nickel, and chromium. Compared to ordinary lead batteries, lithium batteries have the characteristics of light weight, high energy storage, and low self discharge, but their prices are also relatively high.
